Learning Centers by Location
Learning Centers Guidelines
- Anyone with an MC ID may use learning center spaces and computers. Currently enrolled students receive priority.
- Drinks must be in closed containers.
- Food may only be eaten in designated areas.
- Phone calls must be taken outside the center.
- Headphones must be worn when listening to video/audio.
- Children under 16 must be supervised by a parent or guardian at all times.
- Students are responsible for their own belongings. Employees are not allowed to watch belongings for students.
- If students choose to use personal computers or devices and require assistance, employees will not be held liable for any technological issues that arise.
- Repeated violations of policies may result in loss of tutoring privileges, learning center access, and/or escalation to the Learning Commons Director, Dean of Academic Support and/or Dean of Student Affairs.
- Group study rooms, where available, may be reserved for a two-hour period. Spaces may be booked for a longer period if available.
- Study spaces must be continually occupied by group members. Personal belongings must not be left unattended.
- A group that reserves a study space has priority use of that space.
- Each study space has a minimum and maximum group size. Additional chairs may not be moved into the space to accommodate more people.
- All group members must present a current MC ID or valid form of identification.
- Group members should remain aware of volume while using the room.
- Group study rooms should be left clean and usable for the next group.
- Students must be prepared with questions and/or work to show the tutor.
- Tutors cannot assist with take-home tests or quizzes unless clearly given permission by the instructor.
- There is a 10-minute grace period for scheduled appointments. After the 10-minute grace period, the appointment is considered missed.
- Students who arrive late to an appointment will receive only the remaining appointment time.
- Students who arrive after the 10-minute grace period may work with the tutor if the tutor is still available. The appointment no-show may then be voided at the manager’s discretion.
- Students who same-day cancel or no-show to a scheduled appointment 3 times in one semester for a center may lose appointment privileges for that center for the remainder of that semester until they meet to discuss usage and policies with a staff member. They may still use walk-in tutoring.
- Tutoring services have a maximum number of appointments per day or week. For specific details, please view that service’s landing page on Starfish.
- Item loans are only available to currently enrolled students with a valid physical MC ID. To borrow an item, students must not have any unaddressed holds or fines for lost, stolen, and/or overdue learning center items.
- Students are responsible for the timely return and proper care of all loaned items. Failure to return items or resolve outstanding obligations may result in account holds, financial charges, or additional administrative action.
- Loaned technology and materials must be used in accordance with the MC Office of Information Technology Acceptable Use of Information Technology Policy 76001.
