Accounting

Welcome to the accounting discipline at Montgomery College! Our curriculum and coursework are designed to prepare you for a successful career in the field of accounting, whether you pursue work in corporate enterprises, nonprofit organizations, government agencies (including OPM Series 510 for U.S. federal positions), or public accounting firms.
Courses are taught by experienced professionals and academics who bring real-world learning to today’s students. Our small class sizes and ongoing professional development activities allow students to build lasting relationships and strong networks to support their future success.
Degrees and Certificate
Montgomery College offers three degrees to prepare you for accounting work. Follow the links below to each degree to learn more about the program curriculum and related career pathways.
- Accounting Certificate (30 credits) – designed for students who wish to develop a foundation in accounting
or build on their bachelor’s degree to include accounting coursework. The credits
can be applied to the Accounting Associate of Applied Science and are appropriate
for students who have earned a bachelor’s degree in another field of study and want
to pivot into accounting, potentially becoming eligible to sit for the Uniform CPA
Examination.
- Accounting Associate of Applied Science (60 credits) – prepares students for employment in entry-level accounting positions
and provides entrepreneurs and business owners with the practical skills needed to
run their businesses. The degree is intended for immediate application in the workplace.
The credits are not intended for transfer, though they form a strong foundation for
further education and advanced career options.
- Business Associates of Arts (60 credits) - provides students interested in earning a four-year bachelor’s degree in accounting with a traditional transfer pathway. Credits earned transfer to virtually any four-year school, including more than 40 institutions with which MC has transfer agreements. Not all credits will necessarily be accepted at every school. Students are encouraged to work with an MC advisor and contact their preferred transfer institution to ensure their credits will transfer.
